Pray to WIN! -- A Prayer of Faith

Saturday, October 23, 2010
Read James 4: 7 – 8, Hebrews 10:22
By Sam and Sue Stack

I am Thine, O Lord; I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
And be closer drawn to Thee.

O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious bleeding side.

Fanny Crosby the author of this hymn, began memorizing scripture as a child. With the help of her grandmother and later a neighbor, she committed most of the Bible to memory. It was out of this deep reservoir of scripture memory that she was able to write so many lasting hymns.

It was her understanding of scripture that allowed her to vision closeness with her Savior as a deep abiding friendship.

Applying Truth as an Individual
Are you as close as you would like to be with your Savior? Pray today that God will draw you closer to him.

Applying the Truth as a Church
Pray today that as your brothers and sisters at Pleasant Valley are praying for closeness to God, that by drawing closer to God, we will draw closer to each other.

  1. Thank you, Bro. Sam and Mrs. Sue, for the great devotions this week. I have loved learning about the writers of the songs. The scripture text has spoken and challenged me as well. I am excited to see what God is going to do as He brings revival to the hearts of His people. God Bless!
