Pray to WIN! -- A Prayer of Celebration

Sunday, October 24, 2010
Read Isaiah 43: 1 - 2; 2 Peter 1: 4
By Sam and Sue Stack

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more could He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

Fear not I am with thee; O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by My righteous omnipotent hand.

When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie.
My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.

“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no, never, no, never forsake!”

This hymn was first published in 1787, and was originally titled “Scripture Promises.” That is an appropriate title for a song that reminds us of God’s promise and faithfulness to us. We can celebrate the truth of scripture today as we prepare for today’s services and this week of Revival.

Applying Truth as an Individual
Do you truly believe the promises of scripture? Maybe a better question would be: do you live like you believe the promises? Pray today that God will give you the faith to live and celebrate the promises of scripture.

Applying the Truth as a Church
Pray today that as our church body prays through this devotion, we will show by faith that we as a church believe and trust in the promises of God’s Word.
